Open Cup in Programming 2007-2008

In September 2007 the annual IV Open Cup in Programming started under the aegis of CBOSS Corporation. The Cup's season lasts from September till May, with a break during the winter university exam session - January 14-26. Each season consists of a series of stages called Grand Prix held in almost precise accordance with the АСМ guidelines.

This year 447 teams from 11 countries: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Poland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Lithuania, and Azerbaijan participate in the IV Open Cup in Programming. Teams represent 99 universities and 60 schools from the participating countries.

8 out of 10 cup stages have already finished. The top ten currently features 3 teams from Moscow, including the legendary world champion Pyotr Mitrichev. It is noteworthy that Pyotr is the only participant of his team, while every other team has three contestants. The top ten also includes two teams from Saint-Petersburg and teams from Novosibirsk, Warsaw, Kiev, Belarus, and Orel.

Last year the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications hosted a meeting between Dmitry Medvedev, first deputy prime minister, and the Russian teams - winners of the ACM ICPC 2007 finals. Among others, the Open Cup issue, brought up by Pavel Nalivayko (MSU), was discussed at the meeting. As a result, it was proposed to grant the Cup of Russia status to the Open Cup.

The Open Cup in Programming gives talented young programmers, students and pupils from various countries a valuable opportunity to demonstrate their extraordinary skills. The Cup is traditionally hosted by CBOSS Corporation and Lomonosov Moscow State University. This season Yandex was another general sponsor of the event. The Open Cup in Programming is aimed at supporting the Russian system of higher education and promising young specialists, the Russian science and its segment of intelligent technologies. The organization and conduct of the Open Cup in Programming is another major event in the framework of the long-term collaboration between CBOSS and the leading Russian universities. This collaboration in its turn is an important part of the CBOSS Corporation's program aimed at supporting higher education in Russia.
