Ask what rtBilling system can do in 100 milliseconds
It takes a hundred milliseconds for the world's fastest man to zip less than a meter. That is the time it takes for rtBilling to identify the mobile service user, check the balance and charge for the service – whenever it’s voice, data or specified content.
"Our definition of real-time is a response time of a hundred milliseconds. Service usage is rated and charged for immediately, not in 15 minutes or 24 hours", Kimmo Matero, Director of Solution Management says.
rtBilling solution was developed particularly for the prepaid market. The latest version of the rtBilling solution (rtBilling release 9) now integrates the use of both prepaid and post-paid wireless services in hybrid accounts.
"Operators can’t afford to play around and juggle with different systems to see which of them really works. Whether pre- or post-paid, our solution is now able to handle both types of accounts in the same environment."
With hybrid accounts, the subscriber has only one phone number, but depending on use, different accounts are charged. The hybrid accounts option has already raised interest among corporations.
"For instance, the company account is charged for during office hours, whereas the user’s personal account can be set as the default after that. Outside specified office hours the user chooses which of the accounts will be charged, which, of course, raises the question of integrity. However, the employer does receive an itemised list on each account, which makes it easy to trace mischief", Matero asserts.
First in market to bill for data in real-time
Customer feedback indicates that rtBilling is the first in the world to enable true real-time rating and charging for data services and content. While subscribers are able to utilise the entire range of telecom services anytime and anywhere, rtBilling reduces the risks related to value added service usage.
To avoid credit risks related to post-paid subscriptions, high valued data traffic such as MMS and GPRS can be defined as prepaid services. Furthermore, third party mobile services can be set as prepaid services while the operator’s own services are post-paid. Regardless of the subscriber payment option, rtBilling checks and validates the user’s account prior to service delivery.
"All the latest standards are integrated in the system, enabling all kind of communications traffic and balance checking also when abroad. Data and messages can be sent and received anytime and anywhere, even with a prepaid account", Kimmo Matero points out.
The rtBilling release 9 was launched in September 2003.
